Subject: RE: Jet silicon
replacement
To all,
Today with the help of many we replaced the jet silicon detectors, relocated one ion gauge from chamber 6 to allow for a possible spectrometer measurement of the light emitted from the beam hitting the jet. In addition, after visual inspection, we removed the collimators we added the last time for fear that they may be occluding more than we thought in the vertical direction and the outer was slightly misplaced along the beam direction. One potential benefit is a larger vertical aperture that may allow a two beam configuration. A possible drawback is the potential for added background.
Now we have one pump running on chamber 6 and the pressure is at 2x10-5 Torr. Tomorrow the vacuum group will carry out a leak check and will start pumping on all fronts including bake out of the transition pieces and activation of the NEG cartridge.
Ron will reinstall the preamp shaper electronics and prepare for measurements with the alpha sources to validate what Boris did on the bench.
Another issue discussed, was the light emanating from the beam hitting the jet as well as the carbon target and how much of an effect this has on our baseline measurements (specially in Carbon). This I am sure we will discuss at some opportune time later.
Regards,
Yousef
